Today's Lesson In Baking

Tonight we had a baking experience that almost scared me.  Almost a FIRE in the oven.  I wasn't scared too much because Ralph was here. I learned that a half inch in a bread pan can make a whole lot of difference especially dealing with yeast, baking powder, etc.  I could have taken the half inch in 4 bread pans and made a fifth pan if I had only known the outcome.  The sweet bread rose so high out of the pan, if regular bread may have been just fine, but due to being sweet bread, it was mushier and dripped into the oven causing the excess to burn on the bottom of the oven.  I cleaned it out by wiping the first portion with a paper towel.  Then later the again.  BUT, towards the end the other two were just dripping beyond control and one in particular, oh wow.  I thought a fire was going to ignite due to the debree being so red like charcoal.  Ralph scrapped it out with a spatchula, but then the house filled with smoke.  Aaron and I were choking on it.  Opened the back door to let the smoke out.  I was even praying out loud because I was a bit scared and nervous.  Ralph suggested throwing them out and giving up, but I said no, let them bake.  That is when I prayed.  A few minutes later we checked on them, they were done.  All of them.  The Lord answered my prayer.  You see I put the first 2 in together, but the 3rd in about 20 minutes later and the 4 about 15 minutes after the 3rd one.  So you see, them getting done all together was a blessing.  No fire.  :-)  Smoke has left the house.

I learned something today and the bread is saved and tastes good.
